I’m buying a 1970 Jeepster Commando off my parents. Its been sitting in a garage for 20 years and has power convertible (canvas needs replacing), power steering, worn vinyl interior, some rust (not a lot), scratched paint, and it needs new tires. What should I offer?

i am looking to buy and old willys truck or wagon and i have seen several that people have "restored" and they do that to them, doesnt that kinda take away some of the historic value? what is the point in doing this?

i am thinking about putting some 49" tires on my 58 willys wagon but i don’t know if they will constantly be breaking every time i go rock crawling, mudding, or even simply pulling a slightly steep hill.i have seen people put 44s on Chevy 12 bolt rear ends and i am pretty sure that the for 9 is just a hair stronger but i don’t want to invest in these tires if i half to keep replacing my axles. HELP!
The 9-inch rear is indeed every bit as strong as the GM 12 bolt. If you want to be on the safe side, make sure it has 31 spline axles, and of course, the differential side gears would have to match that.
Most of the full size cars had 28 spline ones, and there may have even been a smaller size.
Also, as far as the drop out housing portion, look for one that has a big "N" cast into it. That stands for Nodular cast iron, the strongest they made.
Other than that, about the only thing that beats both of them is the Dana 60.
Took some parts off a engine I had in my shop whose pistons split apart (literally) It had a carburetor from a Jeepster on it, and a intake manifold from the same. A vacuum advance distributor was also installed. On top of all this it has a Kaiser Supersonic head was installed (higher compression).
Since my dad’s truck wasn’t running the best with the stuff it had on it, I decided to take the parts from the other engine and install it on the Eazy Project to get a little better performance.
Took only about 9 hours to swap everything over, that’s including cleaning and watching paint dry.
New points, rotor, cap, and wires were also used. Runs great, but still need to fix a few things with the throttle linkage.

I believe the early Jeepsters were really the start of the sport ute craze. This a more practical than the Jeep for hauling people and things around…a nice addition to a collection! This one has a v6…probably from Buick.
